We realised that it has been a while since we shared an update on our journey of building LYEONS. Over the past few months, we have been busy writing articles, learning from experts, carrying out further studies, and working on our Listening to Users series. Before we knew it, we had spent far less time documenting our own journey.
What prompted us to write this update was the number of neurotechnology innovators who have asked us how things are going. We thought it was about time we shared what we have been working on and continued documenting the journey of developing LYEONS. 🙂
Advancing Our Research
One of our biggest focuses this year has been the research study we are running with the university. Designing research protocols, going through research ethics, and putting everything in place to run a study can be a complex process, but it is also incredibly rewarding.
It has been exciting to advance this research alongside our principal investigators, researchers, and, most importantly, our users. Earlier this year our focus was on preparing the study, and we are now analysing the data and looking forward to sharing what we learn.
Growing Our Team
Our team has also continued to grow. We have welcomed research placement students who are supporting our work to further understand nervous system regulation.
It has been a genuine team effort, bringing together therapists, healthcare professionals, researchers, and people with lived experience of anxiety and neurological conditions. Every conversation helps us better understand the challenges people face and how we may be able to support them.
Learning from Our Community
One of the biggest highlights has been working alongside our users. As we launched our beta batch and pre-production run, many more people began using LYEONS Heart. Even more encouraging has been seeing users recommend the device to their friends, family, and others they believe could benefit.
Of course, pre-production was not without its challenges. There were bugs to fix, hardware improvements to make, and even occasions where emails did not reach users, leaving them waiting longer than expected. These moments are never easy, but what stood out most was the incredible support and patience of our community.
Having worked in health and medical innovation for many years, co-developing with users has always been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey. LYEONS has truly become a highlight of what community-led innovation can achieve.
We have learned so much about how people introduce the device into their daily lives, the different ways they use it, the features they would like to see, and how it supports them in different situations. These insights continue to shape every stage of development.
Connecting with the Neurotechnology Community
Over the past few months, we have attended several neurotechnology events where we met researchers from around the world. These conversations have led to new collaborations, exciting ideas, and discussions about future research together..! All over the world. 🙂
Meeting people through exhibitions has always been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey because it brings together people who are passionate about advancing brain health.
We have met with lots of exciting people through the events, Lizzie was one of the person we met at Cambridge Neuroworks event, where we were showcasing LYEONS Heart. She later on shared her insights about how she believes LYEONS Heart could support with performance anxiety.
Looking Ahead
As we get closer to LYEONS’ second anniversary (we still cannot believe it has already been two years!), we feel incredibly grateful for the community we have built.
To the researchers, clinicians, people with lived experience, founders who have shared their knowledge and resources, and everyone who believes in our mission—thank you. Your support continues to inspire us every day.
The journey has been anything but smooth. Like many startups, we have experienced unexpected challenges, difficult decisions, and constant learning. In many ways, we are navigating what is often called the “valley of death” for early-stage companies.
Yet our passion to support people keeps us moving forward. Our community keeps us moving forward. We are excited for what comes next, and we look forward to continuing this journey together.
